Point Retreat Lighthouse, at the north end of Admiralty Island.
Humpback whales between Rocky Island and Swanson Harbor, near Couverdon Point! We saw multiple breaches and repeated tail slapping. Very cool! It is difficult to get awesome photos of them, and we always debate if we should try, or just enjoy the moment with our own eyes. We watched them for a half hour or so before they moved off northward, and we moved off westward. I love knowing they are around.
Flynn Cove is right in the center of this picture of the map. As you can see, it is a small cove that is off Icy Strait. The weather was calm, so it was a good time to be there.
We went out fishing, and I immediately got a salmon, but he got off the hook. Just as we decided to head back to Dog Star, David caught a halibut down 40 feet on the downriver! Just the right size, too.
I made this delicious dish from a recipe Laura from Airship gave us: One-Pan Roasted Halibut with Cherry Tomatoes. I think it comes from the NYT. I put it over some pasta to soak up all the juicy bits. SO GOOD!
Nice green salad to go with...
Sunset from our anchorage, looking out onto Icy Strait.
A little closer up... So still and peaceful.
Sun up. Not too different, eh? Today we are headed further west up Icy Strait.
