Chris! With only a week to spend, we got right to exploring Juneau...in the rain...by bus.

First stop, Taku Harbor. We previously visited this site of the ruins of a cannery, but it is a short hop from Juneau with lots of exploring.

The ruins of the cannery is like an archeological site and natural art gallery all-in-one.

Exploring has its fun side.

Dinner anyone?

Fishing and reading lessons.

The next morning it was time to move on.

South down Stephen's Passage which has so far been foggy or roaring with wind.

Things cleared up eventually.

This is our first black bear siting of the trip as we were coming into Tracy Arm Cove.

He was very shy and clambered off into the woods soon after we spotted him. Tracy Arm Cove is an anchorage at the mouth of Tracy Arm which hosts Sawyer Glacier, a tide-water glacier, at its head. Consequently it is full of photogenic icebergs.

Off to explore icebergs and secret waterfalls hidden in crevices.

This juvenile Bald Eagle allowed us close enough for a photo shoot.

The real benefit of tidewater glaciers is clear ice thousands of years old for your drinks. Tomorrow, we will investigate the origin of the bergs.

About Us

The salt water has been part of our lives for over 40 years, and we have owned sailboats for most of those.  We love the PNW and all that it has to offer with the beautiful Salish Sea, access to the Pacific Ocean and the wildlife that inhabit these areas.  We have the opportunity to expand our usual areas of exploration this year, and will depart May 24, 2021 for SE Alaska.
