It is a short hop from Warm Spring Bay to Takatz Bay, a beautiful anchorage on Baranof Island with lots of nooks and crannies to explore. Again the mountains towered above the water's edge with plenty of waterfall dropping off the cliffs under the snow fields.

Our "fast" dinghy (as opposed to our previous one) allows us to go further from anchored Dog Star to see everything possible.

This river required exploring! We made it up to the rapids.

This mink emerged to dine on low tide.

Salmon fry hid in the shallow waters at the end of an inlet.

Finally, Mama Brown Bear and 3 cubs came out into the open to do their bear things, which is mostly eat sedges and look longingly at the river for salmon that are yet to return. We slowly drifted closer in our dinghy while the bears made a show of not caring

Brown bear yoga.

This reminds us of our dog Sage looking up at us from the garden with a mouth full of grass.

All that grass makes you thirsty.

And because you can't have too many cute bear cub pictures.

About Us

The salt water has been part of our lives for over 40 years, and we have owned sailboats for most of those.  We love the PNW and all that it has to offer with the beautiful Salish Sea, access to the Pacific Ocean and the wildlife that inhabit these areas.  We have the opportunity to expand our usual areas of exploration this year, and will depart May 24, 2021 for SE Alaska.
