Dryad Lighthouse, not far from Shearwater.
We entered new-to-us territory this day. We cruised from Shearwater to the bitter end of Roscoe Inlet, then half way back again to anchor in Boukind Bay: at total of 48nm, 7-¼ hours. Boy, did we get a clear and beautiful, sunny day for it! This was part of our plan we didn't do in 2021, due to SO MUCH RAIN!! I am glad we waited.
Entering Troup Narrows.
Inside Troup Narrows.
Roscoe Inlet is just south of the designated Fjiordland Recreation Area in BC. I have to say, this is a more impressive fjord than Misty Fiords in SE Alaska. Sheer granite cliffs drop into the water from at least 2000 ft. There are mountains behind these cliffs, some more than 4000 ft high. We could see some of them peaking out with snow fields on them. I expected there to be more snow than there was, and thus more waterfalls, but I think the warm, dry weather has dried them early.
Trees growing out of rock faces.
For wildlife, we saw a few Pacific Loons, pigeon guillemots, eagles and gulls along the way. There were a pair of Common Mergansers in our anchorage. But we got a real treat at the end of the day, while listening to the live Vancouver Symphony Orchestra concert, a mother humpback whale and her little one came for a visit! They circled the boat, coming up for air every so often, dove down a time or two, then meandered their way back out. We were thrilled!
We could only get a photo of Mama.
